CELEBRATING 336 YEARS OF ELECTRICITY
I found that all the greatest progresses in human development seemed to be as a result of electricity. I later evolved this into the message that I have tried to portray in my campaign that, “electricity changed the world”. As I found that electricity is something often taken for granted but now an essential part of functioning society, I established that it would only take a brief moment of consideration for people to start thinking about how important electricity is in their lives.
Targeting influential members in my field of multimedia design within Durban, South Africa in order to make an impact on my own personal portfolio, I created a small campaign to celebrate electricity. I based the date, the 19th of October, off of the birth and death dates of Sir Thomas Browne- whom developed the word. As no exact date was available I set the starting year of “electricity” at the death year of Sir Thomas Browne, which as of 2018 amounts to 336 years.
As the project was meant to focus on typography, I decided to make a kinetic typography video.
